Thirteenth Century mystic poet Rumi’s words, “Let yourself be silently drawn by the strange pull of what you really love. It will not lead you astray,” have inspired many to follow their heart. You see them draw a deep breath and stride out of their comfort zone to take the road less travelled. Karuna Reddy is one of them. For nine years, she was into fashion consulting and art direction before switching to event planning.

Their story began after Karuna relocated to Bangalore for a career in wedding and event planning and met Malvika through mutual friends. Both Malvika and Karuna had separate professions for years before they came together to form their company, The Mogra Collective. Malvika worked as a chef in New York till 2011, while Karuna as an art director for nine years. 

Karuna Reddy and Malvika Poddar are quite the extraordinary pair. Successful businesswomen, entrepreneurs, dog parents and keen travellers, the two set up a wedding planning company called The Mogra Collective three years ago. “When you’re working together, it takes time to identify roles and take control,” says Karuna, who worked as an art director for nine years before her journey as an entrepreneur began. She adds “When we started working there was a lot of chaos. Largely I handle the creative part and Malvika handles the business and finance part of it. So for the past one and a half to two years, it’s been pretty concrete. We don’t interfere in each other’s roles at work.”

Karuna and Malvika, co-founders of The Mogra Collective, dog mums, lovers of crockery and wearers of clothing worthy of a street style editorial, are also complete homebodies (when they’re not pulling off all-nighters, that is).
